Written and Directed by Chris Kentis, Lions Gate Films, Major Release 2004.

Film Plot Summary: "Susan and Daniel are a happily married couple hoping to have a memorable vacation in the islands. Their relaxing vacation soon ends when they are left in the middle of the ocean by a diving boat crew. As the reality of isolation sets in, they turn to one another for support. Unable to support each other, they begin to panic and are soon prompted to question their own fates as encircling sharks start to appear."

The film needed a realistic 'shark' set to shoot the life-like scenes in the water. The film's producers also needed a location that would offer excellent water conditions and qualified location staff for the complicated shark scenes.

Lastly, for the film to be a success, the director needed sharks that would work with the talent and be in the needed places at the required times. Normally, a tall order, as the producers did not want to use CGI for the sharks.

There was only one location that met their criteria by offering dynamic and consistent scenery, and most importantly, useable, pliable, believable sharks: Stuart Cove's Dive The Bahamas!

How We Got The Shots:

Shooting for days in the water, with live animals, called for special talents and location staff. Stuart Cove's provided that unique location, just offshore from the dive Nassau-based facility. Listed below are a few key shots, and how we helped the cast and crew 'get the shots.'

In order to get tight shots, the DP needed to get as close to the action as possible. Utilizing off-camera techniques, it's possible to safely shoot very close to live sharks. Years of training and practice allows the shark wranglers to 'direct' the live animals into position.
Talent needs to appear frightened, while not being concerned for their personal safety. Close and off-camera safety divers and wranglers were standing by to assist with the sharks Safety of the personnel in the water is the Marine Location Manager's job. A position provided, if needed, by Stuart Cove's staff.
The close-up shark scenes needed to look real. Utilizing protective gear and equipment for the production team, allowed close-in filming while protecting valuable gear and crew. Stuart Cove's has all the needed equipment for close-up film work, including state-of-the-art shark cages.
The film's believability scale had to be 'off the charts.' The action needed to be real.
